How to measure a upvc door handle correctly

Many people probably get caught out wasting time and money on stuff they wouldn't of bought had they known what they needed.

The world of upvc products is a vast and ever changing one so lets keep this about door handles only!

There are a number of things to consider before clicking that buy button.

Has the handle broke? or has the lock it operates broke? or both.

Your door handle will most likely be fixed with two screws but some have three, if it is only fixed with two screws then you need to locate their positions.

• Top & bottom (Dimension A)
• Under leaver & bottom (Dimension B)

As can be seen in the above diagram. dimensions A or B or both.

Next is Dimension C which is probably the most important one, at the bottom of this page is a list of sizes this dimension can be.

Dimensions D and E can be helpful to correctly identify your handle in order to find a suitable replacement.

Once armed with all the dimensions taken from your old handle it is now just a case of carefully checking especially if buying online.

Removal of the handle is a very simple task.

Undo the screws and simply pull apart the handles

When it comes to fitting the new handles it is important to remember that the screws MUST be on the internal side, that way no thieves can gain easier access by unscrewing the handle off, the lever part simply flips 180 degrees either way to suit your door and how it is hung

New door handles mostly all come with a built in spring known as a spring cassette, please ensure this is fitted the correct way and is designed to aid the operation of the handle.

Now stand back and admire your new handles.

Top tip, test the handle and lock with the door open. lift the lever and turn the lock to ensure everything works correctly before attempting to lock the door in the closed position, if you have too much resistance to lock the door when it is in the closed position then the door quite possibly is not correctly aligned within the frame and could lead to lock or handle failure.
